Ford Announces Return to Formula 1 with a Powerful Celebration of Legacy
The Ford name has always been synonymous with performance motorsports. So, when the team at Ford approached Chrome Productions with the opportunity to create a film celebrating Ford’s long-anticipated return to Formula 1 and, furthermore, and industry-defining partnership with Red Bull Racing to create Red Bull Ford Powertrains – the answer was a resounding hell yes!
With the announcement of this importance, we knew that each element had to be carefully and creatively considered. We developed. arrange of creative options — one featuring a live action shoot with mustangs and long horns — and through close collaboration with the client narrowed in our eventual storyline. The film's heavily metaphorical narrative pays careful homage to Ford's successful track record at F1 and its deep motorsport legacy whilst also harkening forward to its future as a technologically-advanced, sustainability-minded leader in the future of mobility.
To celebrate Ford’s mission to connect with tens of millions of new customers around the world and introduce them to an exciting line-up of EVs, new technologies, and cutting-edge engineering we new we had to pull out all the stops. We quickly cast a range of talent for a story that plays out over two decades, sourced a 1966 Mustang Fastback to bring to the iconic Brands Hatch, and borrowed the latest Mustang Mach-E to showcase at the technologically-advanced Red Bull Racing HQ in Milton Keynes.
We paired our ARRI Alexa Mini with a set of Caldwell Chameleon Anamorphic lenses, which gave us a beautiful, cinematic look that worked with our travel through different time periods. Our Chrome Post Production team pulled out all the stops to deliver English versions, as well as German, Spanish, French, and Italian to fulfil the requirements of a truly global announcement. Partnering with 750mph for sound design and mix and CHEAT for grade was the icing on the cake to create a film that we are truly proud of.
All of this with the goal of honouring not only where Ford has been, but their current journey as an increasingly electric, software-defined, modern industry-leader. The global team at Chrome couldn’t be prouder to have played our small part in this journey and will be cheering Ford Performance and Red Bull Racing on alongside a new generation of dedicated F1 fans.
