Documenting the Record-Breaking World's Highest Marathon with Ford

Chrome is proud to announce the launch of The World’s Highest Marathon, a new documentary, developed in partnership with BecomingX and Ford, following an extraordinary expedition to Ojos del Salado, the world’s highest volcano, where a team of runners, adventurers and support crew achieved something never done before: completing a marathon at a record-breaking altitude and pursuing multiple Guinness World Records titles.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Chile’s Atacama Desert, the film captures the immense physical, mental and logistical challenge behind a world-first endeavour. Battling extreme altitude, hostile terrain and rapidly changing conditions, the team must confront not only the mountain itself, but their own doubts, fears and limitations. Of the 16 adventurers who began the challenge, only six would ultimately complete it, underlining the extraordinary demands of attempting a marathon in such extreme conditions. As every step becomes heavier, the question emerges: just how far can the human body and spirit be pushed?

Supporting the expedition was a fleet of Ford off-road vehicles, providing a vital lifeline across one of the most unforgiving environments on Earth. Transporting people, equipment and supplies through terrain where conditions can change in an instant, Ford played an essential character in the story and throughout the challenge.

Led by BecomingX, presented by Ford, and produced by the team here at Chrome Productions, The World’s Highest Marathon is a powerful story of ambition, resilience and teamwork. It is a rare insight into what it takes to turn an audacious idea into reality, combining months of planning, extraordinary determination and a shared belief that seemingly impossible goals are worth pursuing.

The documentary showcases not only an exceptional feat of human endurance, but also the collaboration required to bring such a complex expedition to life. From the summit slopes of the highest volcano on Earth to the production teams working in one of the world's harshest environments, every aspect of the project was pushed to its limits.

See how the team documented 16 athletes’ brutal, high-altitude marathon run on the world’s highest volcano and the vehicles they relied on as mobile basecamp.

I’ve been fortunate to work on many ambitious projects, but very few felt like this one. Being part of the World’s Highest Marathon wasn’t just about documenting a record attempt. It was about witnessing, from the inside, what’s possible when extraordinary people come together with the right preparation, support, and tools in an environment that offers no forgiveness.
