Chrome Wins Six Telly Awards with Christie’s in 44th Annual Season
We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded six Telly awards in 2023: four silver and two bronze.
Christie’s | Visionary: The Paul G. Allen Collection Evening Sale & Livestream
Chrome Production’s live broadcast of the first billion-dollar art sale at Christie's, 'Visionary: The Paul G. Allen Collection' achieved $1.5 billion in a single evening – a record for the industry. This broadcast demanded significant preparation, a unique global team, and an impressive and engaging production approach. Chrome focused on three main components: monumental and immersive screens to showcase the masterworks on offer, dynamic and fast-moving cameras, and a unique reverse angle to give the at-home audience a comprehensive understanding of the auction room. We introduced two telescoping tower cameras that craned over 13 feet above the audience, providing dynamic movement throughout the sale and capturing both sides of phone banks and the auctioneer. These were supplemented by carefully placing robotic cameras (similar to those used in live sporting events) that had been programmed to pick bids out of the room with the touch of a button. Our unique 'reverse' angle camera behind the auctioneer put viewers on the podium, providing them with what many felt was "the best seat in the house." The end result was two incredibly auctions broadcast live to 4 million global viewers across 6 hours of live auction, with 27 records broken, bids from over 20 countries, and all lots sold.
This project won five awards:
- General Events: Bronze
- General Museums & Galleries: Bronze
- Craft: Use of Live Stream: Silver
- General: Live Events: Silver
- General: Live Experiences: Silver
Christie’s | DJ Kool Herc and the Birth of Hip Hop
In August 2022, Christie’s celebrated the legacy of Clive Campbell, a.k.a. DJ Kool Herc, a Jamaican American DJ often hailed as the founder of hip hop and an inspiration worldwide. For over fifty years, DJ Kool Herc has been accumulating everything from speakers, turntables, fliers, and photographs in what has become a time capsule of the 1970s music scene. Selections from these memorabilia came under the hammer at Christie’s in a sale that comprised everything from an old contract from a gig to a classic turntable.
Chrome Productions once again partnered with Christie’s to showcase the breadth of DJ Kool Herc’s collection, as well as bring to life the impact he had on the music industry. Our promotional video for the sale spread the word of this iconic figure whilst drumming up interest for his personal mementos, ultimately contributing to a successful sale that nearly doubled its low estimate.
This project won silver for General Biography.
Honouring excellence in video and television, the Telly Awards celebrates creativity and ingenuity in a world where video is increasingly ubiquitous and all-consuming. This most recent season of the Annual Telly Awards aimed “to showcase creativity on all screens that breaks through the static of homogeneity and perhaps even breaks some moulds along the way.” Founded in 1979 to honour excellence in local, regional, and cable television commercials, the Telly Awards has evolved to reflect innovative technologies and a new era of the moving image on and offline. This year, the Telly Awards received over 12,000 entries from 5 continents.
